Richard D Frey

December 18, 1950 — December 30, 2012

Richard D. Frey, Jr. of Bethlehem passed away on 30 December 2012 at St. Luke's Hospice House, Lower Saucon Township. Richie turned 62 on December 18. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Richard and Delphine (Hagerty) Frey. He is survived by his loving wife Jean (Brunovsky) Frey. Richard graduated from Liberty High School in 1969 and attended Kutztown University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Sergeant and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was employed at Bethlehem Steel Corporation and since its inception, has been the Manager of the Warehouse for the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. An avid sportsfan, Richie was an outstanding athlete, participating in football and baseball. He was a member of Northampton County Legion Hall of Fame as a baseball player and as an umpire. Member of: Metropolitan Phila. Baseball Umpire Assn., Bethlehem Umpires Assn., Div. 3 Natl. Collegiate Regional Umpire, ECAC, PIAA, NCAA, NorCo Legion, Blue Mtn. League and ACBL. He also served as Assignor for Norco Legion, Blue Mountain and ACBL Leagues.

Richie will be remembered for his smile, his laughter, love of sports and love of his job at The Pigs, but most importantly, his love of his family.

Survivors: In addition to his wife Jean, twin daughters Heidi Geist and husband Mitch, of Allentown; Heather Uff and husband Ryan, of Macungie; step-daughters Janelle and Lauren Glasmire; sisters Nancyann Miltenberger and husband, Marvin; Barbara Fromhartz and husband, James; and Dorinda Perdick and husband Richard; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be missed and lovingly remembered. Richard was preceded in death by Debra Eaton Frey.

Services: Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, 245 E.Broad St., Bethlehem, where visitation hours will be held on Wednesday January 2nd from 6 to 9 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, in the funeral home, beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Richie's name to the Iron Pigs Charities, Coca-Cola Park, 1050 Iron Pigs Way, Allentown, PA 18109 or St. Luke's Hospice, Development Office, 801 Ostrum St., Bethlehem PA 18015.
