Richard E. Nesfeder

May 10, 1930 — April 15, 2015

Richard Edward Nesfeder, 84, of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, son of the late Estella M. (Jaindl) Nesfeder, passed away on April 15, 2015. Born in Allentown, he was a member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 528. He was a graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School and was salutatorian of the Class of 1948. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving in an intelligence unit in the Philippines. Thereafter, he attended The Pennsylvania State University on the G.I. Bill and obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was an avid Penn State football fan. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company in power plant engineering for 35 years, before retiring in 1992. Richard spent many hours each day in his basement workshop designing and constructing home improvement projects, his hobby, talent and passion, for many of his children and grandchildren. He was a skilled carpenter and also served as the family electrician, among other talents, and literally wired and re-wired a multitude of family homes. He enjoyed traveling to many vacation destinations throughout the United States as well as Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Joan, who would have celebrated 58 years of Marriage on May 18th; son Mark & his wife Ann of Warrenton, VA; son Michael & his wife Amy of Bethlehem, PA; daughter Anne (Feist) & her husband Jeff of Bethlehem, PA; daughter Christina (OBrien) & her husband Bill of Havertown, PA; and son Thomas & his wife Andrea of Macungie, PA. He was blessed with fourteen grandchildren: Jeffrey (husband of Vanessa), Taryn and Michael (husband of Lauren) (Feist); Daniel, Mary Paige and Brett (Nesfeder); Erin, Maura, Liam and Sean (OBrien); and Madeline, Kate, Josh and Emma (Nesfeder); and two great-grandchildren: Lincoln and Jackson Feist.

Private services provided through Connell Funeral Home will be held at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church.

Memorial contributions may be made in recognition of family member, Father Carl Dinchers missionary work, to Father Walter Kongari Missions, c/o St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Church, 10800 Old Court Road, Woodstock, MD 21163.
