Rita M. Hoffner

April 4, 1927 — August 6, 2009

Rita Marie Kenney Hoffner, 82, of Bethlehem, died August 6, 2009 in St. Luke's Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Born in Philadelphia, PA, in 1927, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Marie Reynolds Kenney. She was the wife of John R. Hoffner. The couple celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary last June.

Rita graduated from Immaculata College with a degree in Chemistry. Prior to her marriage, she worked briefly as a chemist. Rita then taught elementary school at Notre Dame Elementary, Bethlehem, PA, where she was a charter member of the church.

She will always be remembered as a compassionate teacher, generous hostess, and good friend. All were welcome in her home.

Survivors: Rita is survived by her husband, John R. of Bethlehem, three daughters, Kathleen, wife of Michael Kuchera of Chambersburg, PA, Barbara, wife of David Johnson of Escondido, CA, and Christine, wife of Ralph Barthold, Jr. of Newark, DE. She is also survived by seven grandchildren. Rita was predeceased by a brother, John C., and survived by her brother, Paul I. Kenney of New Cumberland, PA, and sister, Marie A., wife of W. Kenneth Bishop of Telford, PA.
