Robert "Bob" M. Strokelitus

Robert “Bob" Strokelitus passed away at St. Lukes Hospital on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the age of 73. Born in Minersville, PA on November 19, 1942, he was the son of the late Willam and Elizabeth (Pivnickas) Strokelitus. He was the husband of Shirley E. Strokelitus of Bethlehem, PA for 49 years and father of Heather (Strokelitus) Yandle, of Coopersburg, PA.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960 and was assigned for duty in the Atlantic Fleet Home, ported in Charleston, SC and served aboard the guided missile destroyer leader, USS McDonough DLG8. It was deployed to Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile crisis and the Mediterranean Sea during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Petty Officer Second Class (E5) before being honorably discharged. In 1964, Bob became employed by the Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 35 years before retiring as an electrical/mechanical repair foreman in the combination mill maintenance department in 1999. Bob was a member of the American Legion post #0945 and several sports and social clubs in Bethlehem.

He will be loving remembered by his wife Shirley E. Strokelitus; daughter, Heather Yandle and her husband Jeremy; brothers Vincent, John and Jerome all of Pottsville, PA ; sister, Veronica Wentz of Pottsville, PA and step sons, Todd Dimler of Allentown, PA and Brian Dimler of Lower Nazareth, PA. Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Maryann Strokelitus of Minersville, PA and Christine Urbanavage of Shenandoah, PA.

Viewings will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. and also Friday, August 19, 2016 from 9-10 a.m. with a service to follow at 10 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Burial will be held at Bethlehem Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 30 S. 17th St. Philadelphia, PA 19103.
