Robert J. Philippi Jr., 80, formerly of Bethlehem Township, died on Monday, July 01, 2013 at Holy Family Manor, Bethlehem. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Robert J. Sr. and Rose (Kneiss) Philippi. He was the loving husband of the late Dolores (Weinhoffer) Philippi who died in 2007, they were married 48 years.
Robert was employed by the Bethlehem Steel in the Coke Works as a Mechanical Millwright. He retired in 1992 after 40 years. He was a long time parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bethlehem, a life time member of the Roosevelt Democratic Club, the I.C.C. Club and St. Bernards. He was a proud Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. He was also an avid golfer and bowler.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son, Richard Philippi and wife, Tammy of Bethlehem Twp; daughter, Carol Fries and husband, Michael of Coopersburg; sister, Rosemarie Kovacs of Bethlehem; grandchildren, Matthew and Nicholas Fries, Rebekah Fries, and Emily Philippi.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert J. Philippi III; and grandsons, Douglas Philippi and Robert J. Philippi IV.
A viewing will be held on Friday July 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the St. Ann Chapel at Holy Family Manor, 1200 Spring St. Bethlehem. A 12:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the Chapel. Burial will be at Holy Ghost Cemetery, Bethlehem.
