Robert R. Detweiler, Sr.

December 24, 1942 — June 17, 2007

Robert R. Detweiler, Sr., 64, formerly of Bethlehem died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Hospice House of the VNA of St. Luke's.

He was born in Bethlehem, the son of the late Roy R. Detweiler, Sr. and Claire Anthony Detweiler of Bethlehem.

Robert is survived by his caring wife, Frances Gobs Detweiler of Bridgeville, DE.

He proudly served his country in U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Robert retired from Bethlehem Corp. after 33 years of service as a Machinist.

He will be lovingly remembered by his family, wife, Frances; sons, Robert R. Detweiler, Jr. husband of Michelle M. of Bethlehem Twp. and John R. Detweiler husband of Karen A. of Ridgeland, SC and daughters, Carol L. wife of James R. Lasko of Bethlehem and Sandra J. wife of Robert Marakovits of Egypt, PA.

Robert is also survived by his sisters, Janet Cole of Harrington, DE and Rita Schall of Bear Creek, PA and Brother Roy R. Detweiler, Jr. of Allentown as well as seven grandchildren.

Robert spent most of his free time coaching football and baseball. In 1977, he was a coach of the Southside Little League team that won the PA State Championship.

Robert will be forever remembered as a straight forward man, who was proud of the Marine Corps, and especially loved spending time with his family.

A visitation will be held at Connell Funeral Home, Inc 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem on Thursday, June 21, 2007 from 9-11 AM with a service to celebrate Robert's life to immediately follow in the funeral home.
