Robert Reinhard Scholl

December 23, 1928 — October 6, 2008

Robert Reinhard Scholl, 79, passed away on Monday October 6, 2008, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Born in Fountain Hill, PA, he was the son of the late Calvin and Anna Reinhard Scholl.

He was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Franklin Scholl. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Jane Miller of Bethlehem; daughters Raleigh Shook and her husband Greg of Berlin, MD, Stacey Scholl of Bethlehem; and brother, Jay C. and his wife Susan of Bethlehem.

Bob served in the active U.S. Navy Reserve from 1948 to 1960 on a Destroyer Escort. He attended Fountain Hill High School and graduated in 1950 from Moravian College with a B.S. in Mathematics.

Prior to graduation from college, he and his father formed Scholl Lumber Company, a wholesale distributor of lumber and building products. He became President and Treasurer of Scholl Lumber Co. Bob later fulfilled all licensing requirements and until his passing, served his clients as a Special Agent for Prudential Financial in Allentown, PA. He also acted in numerous cable TV detective crime series, local corporate commercials and modeled for catalogues.

Since 1953, he was active in the Rotary Club of Bethlehem with nearly 55 years of perfect weekly attendance, becoming a Paul Harris Fellow, serving numerous terms on their Board of Directors and since inception, sang bass in Rotary Morgannaires, the club's singing group. In earlier years, he sang in the Trinity Episcopal Choir. He was a member of Saucon Valley Country Club. Bob also served his community through various volunteer activities including the Fountain Hill Disaster Chair for the Red Cross, Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley Finance Committee, and the Moravian College Alumni Association, where he was presented with the 1978 Harvey T.D. Gillespie Outstanding Coaches Award.

Scholl was also a member of the North American Wholesale Lumber Association, serving on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and as Treasurer of this international trade organization. For nearly 55 years, he was Treasurer Agent of Valley Enterprises, a local investment club and from 1980 to 1995 Bob served on the KNBT Bancorp., Board of Trustees.

Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m Friday October 10th at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad Street, Bethlehem. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 11th at the funeral home.
