Roy Lee Dye

Roy Lee Dye lost his battle with Parkinsons disease on Friday, May 15, 2015. He died at home surrounded by his family. Roy was born September 2, 1932, in Mahanoy City, PA, but was raised in Allentown. He was the son of the late Roy S. Dye and Anna Bobby Dye. He is survived by his wife, Joan Russell Dye. The couple would have been married sixty years on July 9th. Roy and Joan have been members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Bethlehem, since 1974. Roy graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 1950 and served in the Army from 1953 to 1955 in the Psychological Operations Division. Roy began his career with Pennsylvania Power and Light Company in 1950 as a radio repairman and advanced to the computer maintenance division. Roy retired from PPL in 1994 after forty-two years of service, thirteen of which were in Hazelton, PA. Upon retirement, Leroy, as he was also known, worked in his son-in-laws heating and air conditioning business. Roy was active in OLPH as an usher and was a frequent volunteer for the parish carnival.

Roy is also survived by his four children, Maryellen Dye; Regina Dugan, wife of James Dugan; David Dye and Catherine Dye; thirteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Roy is also survived by a brother, Joseph Dye; sister-in-law, Maureen and brothers-in-law, Robert Russell and Joseph Yoo; as well as eight nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Dye and a sister, Mary Dye Yoo.

A visitation will be held tonight, Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at The Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 and again on Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 3219 Santee Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18020. Burial will be held at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
