Rudolph G. Nehilla

August 8, 1931 — December 31, 2016

Rudolph (Rudy) Nehilla passed away on New Years Eve 2016, at Holy Family Manor embraced by the love of his family. He was 85 years old. A lifelong resident of Bethlehem, Rudy was raised on the south side of town. As an adolescent he enjoyed playing sports and exploring the woods with his brothers and friends where they would bring and cook potatoes rather than returning home for lunch. Rudy graduated from Bethlehem Technical High School where he played football.

A trained carpenter, Rudy served in the US Navy as a SeaBee during the Korean War, and was stationed in Argencia, Newfoundland and then Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Rudy worked with the Plant Patrol for the Bethlehem Steel and found great joy in working part time for Connells Funeral Home and Deschlers Seafood, where you could often find him cooking for the famous clam bakes. Rudy was a superb cook, an avid bowler, proficient skier, and a long-distance walker who enjoyed early morning strolls through the streets of Bethlehem while most of the city slept. He was a member of The National Sokols, North End Wanderers, and Saint Bernard Home of the Good Samaritans Clubs. Rudys greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lynn Nehilla; his children Lynn Sell, David Nehilla, Susan Fennecken and her husband William Fennecken, Anne Redding and her husband Michael Redding; his grandchildren, Sean Redding (wife Jennifer Redding), Marissa Redding (husband Cody Dickerson), Brett Redding, Sherri Donovan (husband Chris Donovan), Christi Banham, Aubrie Fennecken, Liam Fennecken & Ian Sell; great grandchildren, Kaine and Kaleaya Dickerson, Brayden and Connor Donovan, and Atticus Redding.

Family will greet guests from 8:45 to 9:45 AM on Saturday, January 7th at Holy Infancy Church, 312 E. Fourth Street, Bethlehem, followed by a Mass at 10 AM. Interment will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Offer condolences online at www.connellfuneral.com
