Rudolph “Rudy” Marmelo, Sr., 87, of Bethlehem Twp., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 23, 2018; he was surrounded by his family. Born in Freixo da Serra, Portugal; he was the son of the late Adirao and Amelia (Esperancu) Marmelo. He was the husband of the late Anne (Melinsky) Marmelo who died in 2016; they were married for 63 years.
Rudy came to the United States in 1944 at the age of 13. He worked in several service stations and after quickly learning the business he opened his own station, Rudys Thriftway in Easton, now Rudys Carwash.
Survivors: daughter, Charlene Dean and her husband, Rich; sons, Rudy Marmelo, Jr., and Wane Marmelo and his wife, Debbie; grandchildren: Justin and his wife, Ashley, Ryan and his wife, Mayra, Mitchel, Caryn, Kenny, and Lisa; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Tony Marmelo and his wife, Joyce; and sister, Salette Marmelo.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 26, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1817 1st St., Bethlehem, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with burial at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethelehem.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia, 3401 Civic Center Blvd. Philadelphia PA, 19104.
