Ruth Folio

Ruth Folio, 88, of Bethlehem, PA, formerly of Bridgewater, NJ and Laurys Station PA, died Monday, June 24, 2013.

She was born in Newark, NJ on May 2, 1925, one of 8 children of Olive and James Smith. She graduated from Hillside High School, where she excelled at sports. Her yearbook description was: "On the diamond, field or court, Ruth excelled at every sport".

Ruth married Frank J. Folio on Sept 21, 1947 in Newark NJ and lived in Elizabeth, the Plainfields, and Bridgewater NJ during their marriage. She was a homemaker, raising 4 children, and also worked at American Standard in Piscataway in NJ, as an Accounts Payable supervisor.

She was predeceased by her husband, who passed away on May 13, 1977 and her son-in-law Robert Dougherty, who passed away on Sept 25, 2011. Ruth later moved to her home in Laurys Station PA, where she enjoyed gardening, working out at the Y, and visits with neighbors and family.

She is survived by her daughters Joyce Leftly (Stephen) of Glen Gardner NJ, Joan Saggers (Greg) of Camp Hill, PA, and Susan Dougherty of Easton PA, and her son, Frank J Folio of Huntingdon Valley, PA. She also leaves 6 grand-children (Jessica Saggers, Jaime DiPane, Meredith Saggers, Arielle Folio, Ryan Folio and Erica Folio) and 1 great-grandson, Avery DiPane. Other survivors include her beloved sister Beatrice O'Dell of Phoenix, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the devoted and loving staff at Kirkland Village, who kept Ruth smiling and enjoying life for her years there, as well as the wonderful staff at St Luke's Hospice.

There will be a funeral service 11:30 am Friday, June 28 at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 East Broad St Bethlehem PA 18018, with a burial to follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem PA. Viewings will be held Thurday evening from 6 - 8 pm and Friday morning from 10:30 - 11:30 am at Connell Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Briteside Adult Day Center, Flemington NJ or St Luke's Hospice, 801 Ostrum Development Office Bethlehem PA. 18015.
