Sandra “Sandy” Jean Vajda of Freemansburg, PA was called to meet her Savior on November 8 at age 78. She was born to parents Helen and David Pittinger in Bethlehem, PA, and graduated from Liberty High School in 1961. Sandy married her high school sweetheart in 1963, and settled in Freemansburg where she raised her children.
Sandy obtained a Masters degree in Education at Kutztown University, and upon graduation directed her passion and creative energies to teaching Spanish to successive classes of middle and high school students at Allentown Central Catholic and Northern Lehigh, retiring in 2011. She was a long-time member of St. John's Windish Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was active in teaching Sunday School, and also English immersion classes. When not teaching, Sandy enjoyed lunching with friends, solving crossword puzzles, reading cookbooks, and enjoying time with her five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 58 years, “Charles” Bruce Vajda; children Melanie (Gerald) Wrecsics of Freemansburg, and Paul (Kristina) of Durham, NH; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 9-11am on Monday, November 15 at St. John's Windish Evangelical Lutheran Church, 617 E 4th St, Bethlehem, PA 18015, followed immediately by a funeral service. The family kindly requests that visitors wear masks upon entry to the church.
