Seaton A. Holt, Jr.

June 2, 1925 — April 7, 2006

Seaton ?Sam? A. Holt, Jr., 80, of Hellertown died Friday April 7, 2006, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Bethlehem. Born on June 2, 1925 in Sanford, N.C.; he was the son of the late Seaton A., Sr. and Olive Sexton Holt. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Betty Holt.Sam graduated Philo H.S. in Ohio in 1943 and immediately joined the U.S. Navy Armed Guard. He served in WWII as a gunner and saw action in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres, and the Normandy invasion. He was a 50 year member of Local 420 Steamfitters Union, Philadelphia. Sam was a welder and a pipe fitter for 40 years before retiring in 1988. He was also a welding teacher for the Steamfitters Apprenticeship for 10 years and taught welding to various tradesmen. He was the fabricator and builder of the steel sculpture, ?Family of Man? which still stands today. He was a 32 degree Mason, a member of the Valley Consistory of Allentown, the Blue Lodge of Bellaire, Ohio, and of the Wesley Methodist Church of Bethlehem. Sam was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing in Canada with his sons. He traveled the world with his wife and was the ?Chief Cook? at home, known for his great pimento cheese sandwiches and amazing Christmas dinners for 20. His grandchildren always called him for recipes of his famous dishes and he could build or fix anything.He will be lovingly remembered by: wife, Betty; son, Michael and wife Irene, son, Rod and wife Dyanne; daughter, Jill and husband Dennis, daughter, Judy and husband Bob. He was a proud grandfather of seven, and a great-grandfather of two.Arrangements are being handled by Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem where calling hours will be held on Monday April 10th from 10 to 12 noon. A noon time funeral service will follow in the funeral home. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery of Hellertown. Contributions, in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 201 N. 17th St., Suite 212; Allentown, PA 18014, and the American Cancer Society, 3893 Adler Place; Bethlehem, PA 18017.
