Shirley L. Havernic

Shirley L. Havernic, 81, of Bethlehem passed away on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at Kirkland Village. Born in Bethlehem she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Dougherty Stahr. Her best friend and husband of 50 years, the late Joseph S. Havernic died in 2001.

Shirley worked until the early 1980's. She was employed at the former Orr's Department Store in downtown Bethlehem, then in the banking industry for 20-ish years. She had been a teller at what was the Bethlehem National Bank which became the First National Bank and eventually First Valley Bank where she finished her banking career in the General Ledger office. She then worked in the offices of the former Bethlehem Steel Co. Shirley was a 1949 graduate of Liberty H.S. She enjoyed reading, knitting especially knitting caps to give to the needy, the Phillies, her Red Hat friends, walking and "swim therapy" at the Bethlehem Township pool. She also very much enjoyed travelling with her husband and later, with her sisters and niece Linda. She volunteered at the Cancer Boutique, Daffodil Days and the Muhlenberg Festival.

Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Patricia, wife of John Sulick of Bellefonte, PA, brothers Robert Stahr and wife Mary Jane of Bethlehem and Richard Stahr and wife Barbara of Rochester, NY, sisters Elizabeth Stauffer, wife of the late Dr. Harold Stauffer, of Quakertown, Joan Carraghan of Bethlehem, sister-in-law Patricia Stahr, wife of the late Ron Stahr of Bethlehem , brother-in-law Bruno Moritz, husband of the late Margaret and several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate Shirley's life will be on Saturday March 3, 2012 at 11:30am in the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem. Friends may call one hour prior to services.
