Shirley S. De Vries

Shirley S. de Vries, 83, of Bethlehem, began her journey into eternal life on Friday, August 23, 2013, 57 years to the date that she began her new life in the United States. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born on September 26, 1929 in Jelsum, The Netherlands. Daughter of the late Andrew and Fiona (Faber) Visser, she is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ekke P. de Vries.

In Holland, Shirley worked as an administrator at an employment office. For 26 years prior to retirement, she served as a billing clerk for the Radiology Dept. at St. Lukes Hospital.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem since 1957. Shirley enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Colonial Quilters Guild. She was a longtime Musikfest and Christkindlmarkt volunteer.

Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her husband Ekke; two daughters, Ina Nechita and Carla Rowland and her husband Jim, all of Bethlehem; sons, Paul de Vries and his wife Linda of Bethlehem and Robert de Vries of Sayre, PA; her brother, George Visser of Canada, and three grandchildren, Ryan, Courtney and Jordan Nechita. She was preceded in death by her brother Peter.

A visitation will be held at The Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018 on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 6-8 PM. A service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, 2344 Center St. Bethlehem, PA 18017. The family will greet guests from 10-10:30 am in the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Lehigh Valley Hospice, 2166 S. 12th St. Allentown, PA 18103.
