Silvina Alves

Silvina Alves, 92, of Bethlehem passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Moravian Village. She was the wife of the late Antonio Alves who died in 2011. Silvina was born in Veiros, Portugal on March 28, 1932 to the late Benjamin and Arminda (Pereira) DaSilva. Silvina's career for four decades was a sewing machine operator at the former Forte Neckwear located in Southside Bethlehem. This was not only a source of livelihood for her but also a testimony of her hard work and dedication. Fluent in both English and Portuguese, she, alongside her late husband, offered their invaluable translation services to help many families and friends bridge language barriers. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Silvina was a former member of the Portuguese Club in Bethlehem and an active member of Holy Infancy Roman Catholic Church, Bethlehem. Her contributions to these organizations highlighted her deep sense of community spirit and commitment to helping others.

Survivors: children: Dolores A. (Jeffrey) Johns of Allentown, Gloria A. Peck of Center Valley, Antonio A. Alves, III of Bonita Springs, FL; grandchildren: Christina (Michael) Scripps, Jeffrey (Kristi) Johns, Jr., Cassandra Peck (Gregory T.) Stephenson, Jennifer (Jonathan) Johns; great-grandchildren: Maximus Hernandez, Ella Scripps, Olivia Scripps, Gabrielle Johns, Gavin Stephenson, Griffin Stephenson, Joseph Johns, Grace Turko, Annabel Turko, Charlotte Turko. Predeceased by siblings: Manuel and Benjamin DaSilva; son-in-law: Charles G. Peck; granddaughter: Alexandra Peck.

Service: Family and friends are invited to her viewing 9-10 am Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Holy Infancy Roman Catholic Church, 312 East 4th Street, Bethlehem followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am.
