Sister M. Bernadette Ann Bozak, O.S.F.

Sister M. Bernadette Ann (former Sister Thomas), 83, a member of the School Sisters of St. Francis United States Province, in her 65th year of Religious Profession, died on January 26, 2017, at Marian Hall Home in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Sister entered the community from St. Stephen Parish in Shenandoah, Pa. in 1950 and professed her first vows in 1952 at Mount Assisi Convent Chapel in Pittsburgh, Pa. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Carlow College in Pittsburgh, Pa., and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey.

Sister Bernadette Ann taught the elementary grades in various schools in New Jersey and Pennsylvania; she taught religious formation classes in Massachusetts. She also served as principal in two schools in Pennsylvania. Upon her retirement from education, Sister ministered to the sisters at Villa Clare in Bethlehem, Pa. Sister served for 12 years as a pastoral associate and organist in New Hampshire. Her last years of life were spent at Marian Hall Home as a faithful participant in the prayer ministry.

Sister Bernadette Ann was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Anna (Shallack) Bozak, brother Michael and sisters Louise Shaw and Wilma Baldwin. She is survived by her religious community, her brother-in-law Harry Shaw, sister-in-law, Barbara Bozak and her nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours are from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017 and from 10-11 a.m on Tuesday, January 31 at Monocacy Manor in Bethlehem, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, Monocacy Manor. Arrangements have been made by Connell Funeral Home, Bethlehem, Pa. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the School Sisters of St. Francis Retirement Fund, 395 Bridle Path Road, Bethlehem, Pa. 18017.
