Sister M. Electa Barlok, Osf

Sister M. Electa (Bernardine) Barlok, of the School Sisters of St. Francis United States Province, in her 67th year of Religious Profession, died on February 17, 2018, at Vincentian Home in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was 86.

Sister entered from Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Northampton, Pa., and professed first vows in 1951 at Mount Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh, Pa. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Seton Hall University in New Jersey and a master's degree in library science from Villanova University in Philadelphia, Pa. She also received her master of religious studies from St. Charles Seminary in Philadelphia.

Sister taught at various elementary schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and was principal in both Stowe and Bethlehem, Pa. Many will remember Sister when she taught at St. Francis Academy in Bethlehem, Pa., and from her ministry work in several parishes in Pennsylvania and in Westfield, Mass. From 2010 to 2013, she lovingly handled correspondence for the Sisters Prayer Ministry fund and served as librarian at Mount Assisi Convent. For the last nine years of her life she was dedicated to the ministry of prayer.

Sister Electa was preceded in death by her parents, John Stephen and Mary Elizabeth (Makovsky) Barlok. She is survived by her religious community and cousins.

Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, February 23, at Monocacy Manor in Bethlehem, Pa. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 23, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel at Monocacy Manor. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery. Arrangements by Connell Funeral Home in Bethlehem, Pa.
