Sister M. Emilia Suchon, Osf

Sister M. Emilia (Pauline) Suchon, 89, a member of the School Sisters of St. Francis, United States Province for 67 years, on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Holy Family Manor in Bethlehem, Pa. She was born and raised in Bucany, Czechoslovakia to the late Stefan Frantisek Suchon and Serafina (Chudy) Suchon. She came to the United States in 1938 and lived in Passaic, NJ with her relatives. Sister Emilia entered the community from St. Mary Parish in Passaic, NJ in 1943 and professed her first vows in 1945 in Mount Assisi Convent Chapel in Pittsburgh Pa. She received her early education in Rimsko Katolicka Ludova Skola in Czechoslovakia and her High School Certificate in 1972 after completing night classes at North Bergen High School in North Bergen, NJ. Throughout her years of ministering to our sisters, Sister Emilia was known for her excellent cooking and baking. She ministered in our convents in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Massachusetts. In 1997 she was asked to help at the generalate in Rome for two years. In 1999, she came to Monocacy Manor, the motherhouse of the former Bethlehem Province, and helped in the preparation of the sisters' meals until 2005 when she began her ministry of prayer and helping where she was able.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Cecilia Teplansky, Mary Michalik, Hedwiga Suchon and her deceased brothers Joseph, Jan and Frantisek. She is survived by her religious community and many relatives in the United States and Slovakia.

The viewing will be at Monocacy from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday March 17th, and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel. Arrangements have been made by the Connell Funeral Home, Bethlehem Pa.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the School Sisters of St. Francis Retirement Fund.
