Sophie Bednar

Sophie Timko Bednar, 90, of Bethlehem, PA died peacefully Thursday, October 30, 2008 at her home. Born April 11, 1918 in Bethlehem she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Lazorik and Victor Timko. She was married to Andrew Bednar, Sr. with whom she just celebrated 62 years of marriage on July 20th.

Sophie was born in Bethlehem, but raised in Siroke, Czechoslovakia. She returned to the U.S. in 1936, where she has lived ever since Sophie was a member of the former Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Catholic Sokols and Zenska Jednota. Sophie was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Andrew Bednar, Sr. of Bethlehem, son, Andrew Bednar, Jr. and wife Debra of Bethlehem, daughter, Lucy Bednar and husband Richard Gaughran of Dayton, VA, granddaughter, Jennifer Harayda and husband Kevin of Bethlehem, and great granddaughters, Sydney and Charlotte Harayda.

She was preceded in death by her brothers: John and Victor Timko, and sisters: Johanna Timko, Elizabeth Stofanak, and Margaret Cech.
