Sr. Beatrice Kerezsi

November 12, 1927 — April 4, 2010

Sr. Beatrice Kerezsi, F.S.P., 82, of Elmwood Park, NJ and formerly of Bethelehem died Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010 at home in the convent in Elmwood Park. Born in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna Matus Kerezsi.

Sister Beatrice attended St. John Capistrano School and was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy, Staten Island, received a B.S. in Education from Fordham University, and graduate study in religious studies at Manhattan College and Seton Hall University. She was a member of the Daughters of Divine Charity for 33 years and transferred to a Franciscan Congregaton in 1984. She is currently a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Peace, Haverstraw, NY. She was a teacher at various elementary schools in New Jersey and Connecticut. She was the former principal at St. Stephen's School, N.Y.C.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Helen Urich of Allentown, and Sister Mary Marcelle Kerezsi of Bethlehem; and nieces and nephews spanning three generations of which George Urich, Anne Marie DeBellis, and Sandra Herman are local.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, George, Joseph, Louis, and John, sister, Julia Shalbert, and niece, Dolores Strouse.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franciscan Sisters of Peace, 20 Ridge St., Haverstraw, NY 10927.
