Stella Elchin

Stella Elchin, 94, of Allentown, died on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Hospice House of St. Luke's in Lower Saucon Twp. She was born in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late George and Mary Kulicz Filipczak. She was the wife of the late Andrew Elchin.

As a child growing up, her family lived in many places throughout New York and eventually settled in Syracuse. At one point in her life, she resided with her aunt and uncle, Ahaphia Kurk Kulych and Joseph Kulych mother's brother in Great Meadows, NJ. There she attended school with her cousin, Mary Kulych. She enjoyed her time in Great Meadows then took a job in Franklin, NJ where she met and married Andrew Elchin. They married in Immaculate Conception Church, Franklin, NJ in 1935. He died on October 5, 1968 in an automobile accident. Stella worked at the Franklin Diner for 5 years before moving to Friedensville, PA in 1957. She worked at Barney's Diner on Lehigh St, Allentown for 15 years until retiring. Her favorite pastime activities were reading and playing bingo. Her grandson, Andrew Elchin predeceased her. He was born January 9, 1990 and passed away April 27, 2002.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, David Andrew Elchin and one granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Elchin, who graduated from Penn State College in 2009 with a degree in Kinesology, cousins, Dorothy Bogdanowicz Martin and JoAnn Bogdanowicz Castellano, both of Budd Lake, NJ, and many nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by six siblings, Julia Filipchek Hlavka, John Hamjack, Frank Pawlina, Walter Pawlina, Joseph Pawlina and Olga Pawlina Sappington.
