Stephen Horwath died on Sunday July 31, 2016 in Bethlehem PA. He was born in Bethlehem on September 5, 1929. Steve was the husband of the late Janet (Kemp) Horwath and the son of Frank and Julia Horwath. His brother Frank preceded him in death. Steve graduated from Liberty High School. He worked at Bethlehem Steel as a bricklayer and was also a Bethlehem Police Sergeant when he retired after 25 years of service. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to the New Jersey shore for a little over fifteen years where they enjoyed daily jaunts on the beach and Steve worked as a security officer at the Trump Plaza Casino. As they aged, they returned home to Bethlehem to be closer to family. Steve was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Star Lodge 20.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Rau of Bethlehem Township, son Jan Horwath and his wife, Darlene of Kutztown, and his daughter Kathleen Butler and her husband, Sean. He is also survived by his grandsons, Stephen Rau, Justin Rau, Jacob Horwath, Sam Horwath, Emmett Butler, and Jameson Butler, and granddaughter, Meghan Butler, and great granddaughters, Nicole Rau and Kaitlyn Rau.
Service will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Connell Funeral Home in Bethlehem, Pa. is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police, Star Lodge 20 P.O. Box 1387 Bethlehem, PA 18016-1387.
