Stephen M. Glovas

Stephen M. Glovas, 89 of Bethlehem, was called home to heaven by his Lord and Savior on January 4, 2016. He was a born again follower of Jesus! He passed away peacefully with family at his side. He was the husband of the late Helen M. (Walko) Glovas who passed away on November 26, 2009. Stephen was born on January 24, 1926 in Coatesville, PA and was the son of the late Peter and Sofia (Makusczewska) Glovas.

He graduated from Hellertown High School, Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia (1949-1950), worked at several garages in Bethlehem and retired from the Bethlehem Steel in January 1989.

Stephen was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and valued spending time with his family. He was drafted out of high school two months before graduation and served in the United States Army during WWII from April 13, 1944 to April 24, 1946. He was in Company K, the 254th Infantry Regiment of the 63rd Division in France and Germany. Stephen was in the Ardennes-Alsace, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He received two Unit Presidential Citations for the Battle of Colmar in France and his Battalion broke through the Siegfried Line on the 7 Army Front. He was wounded in Germany on April 16, 1945. He returned back to the states on the Queen Elizabeth, which was used as a hospital ship during WWII. Stephen was awarded the Purple Heart and he was also a recipient of the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge.

He was a life member of three veteran organizations- The American Legion of Freemansburg, the Disabled Veterans of the Lehigh Valley, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart of the Lehigh Valley, Chapter 190 where he served as a Commander and Chaplain.

Stephen is lovingly remembered by his son Gregory S. Glovas and his wife Nadine, grandson Christopher, and great granddaughter Delilah, of Danielsville; his daughter Geralyn M. Kasman Miller and her husband Mark, and grandson Kyle of Bethlehem. Stephens three cats miss him dearly. He also has a brother, Andrew Glovas and a sister, Martha Rancke, both of Williams Township and was preceded in death by his brother Rudolph Glovas and his sister Sister Mary Nathanael Glovas.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family and have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, Inc., Bethlehem.
