Stephen Solek, 88, of Allentown, died Friday, June 15, 2007 at Westminster Village where he resided for two years under the loving care of the third floor staff. He was also a resident of Country Meadows for two years prior to living at theWestminster Health Center. Steve also lived on Watkins Street in Bethlehem, on Bethlehem Bath Pike in Hanover Township and on Hottle Avenue near Liberty High School.
Born October 26, 1918 in Allentown, the son of the late Catherine Koval Solek Bilesky and Harry Solek, he was the loving husband of the late Pasqualine RoseGuzzoSolek.
Stephen retired from the Bethlehem Steel Company where he ran the Basic Oxygen Furnace, before that he was a crane operator. Stephen, also known as Whitey, was also a long time member of the Bethlehem Steel CIO bowling league. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in Germany. He was a member of St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Church of Bethlehem and was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage. He also attended St. Simon and Jude Church and St. Anne?s Church in Bethlehem. Stephen, affectionately known as Pop, loved sports and people of all ages.
Stephen will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Mary Catherine Tachovsky and son-in-law Harry Tachovsky of Bethlehem, daughter-in-law Patricia Fodi, and three grandchildren, Aaron, Tara & Kristen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, son Thomas Fodi, sister, Anna Diehl, and brother John Bilesky.
Services: A Funeral Service will be held, Monday, June 18, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Visitation will be
Sunday June 17, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. and Monday, from 9-10 a.m. in the funeral home.
