Steven Joseph Sweeney, 65, of Wapwallopen, PA passed away unexpectedly on October 28, 2024, leaving a legacy of strength, charm, and a zest for life that touched everyone he met. Known to family and friends as Steve or Stevie, he was born on June 11, 1959, in Easton, PA, to Jean Marie (Palko) Winegar and the late William Oscar Sweeney, Sr.
Stevie was the kind of person who could hold a conversation with anyone - and could probably talk them into just about anything. Handsome and strong, he graced the cover of a weightlifting magazine in his younger years which he loved to remind family over the years. And he was affectionately called "Stunning Steve."
Steve was the proud father of Casey Lynn Sweeney and Carter Sweeney, who were his greatest pride and joy. A hardworking third-generation boilermaker, he devoted himself to his craft with the same dedication that his family knew and admired. As a member of the International Brotherhood Boilermaker Local 13, Steve embodied the grit and loyalty that defined his life.
In his free time, Sweeney was most at home outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, or out on a boat, he embraced every moment with an infectious enthusiasm. At one point, he even owned a horse ranch, proving his fearless passion for adventure and his love for the simple pleasures in life. Sweeney found great pleasure in his cars. He also took immense pride in his Irish heritage, his last name, and the legacy of hard work and resilience he passed on to his children.
Steve is survived by his beloved daughter, Casey, his son, Carter, granddaughter, Reagan Jean, his mother, Jean Marie Winegar, brothers, Thomas Sweeney, and William Oscar Sweeney, Jr. and wife, Eileen, as well as his former wife, Karen Sweeney.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Stevie's life on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018. A Boilermaker Ritual will be held at 2:30 p.m. to honor his dedication and brotherhood.
In Stevie's memory, let us celebrate a life lived with conviction, humor, and a heart as strong as his handshake. He was truly "worth his salt."
