Susan J. Heckman, 57, of Bethlehem, passed away on September 8, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Born on December 14, 1966, in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Eberwein and Kathleen (Gehringer) Eberwein Eichelberger.
After graduating from the St. Luke's School of Nursing, Susan dedicated 30 years of her life as a pediatric nurse at St. Luke's, where she touched countless lives with her compassionate care. Her commitment to serving others was truly remarkable. Known for her infectious smile, unwavering spirit, and love of fashion and fitness, Susan's zest for life was truly inspiring to all who knew her. Susan's friends and family--especially her children and grandchildren brought her tremendous joy and they will miss her dearly.
A passionate Philadelphia sports fan, Susan brought joy to many through her enthusiasm for her favorite teams. Her positive attitude and radiant energy brightened the lives of those around her.
Susan will be dearly missed by her husband of 32 years, Rodney Heckman; children, Nicole Heckman and fiancé, Evan, Sarah Heckman and husband, Pasquale, and Brian Heckman; two grandchildren, Elaina and Jack; siblings, Michael Eberwein and wife, Nanette, David Eberwein and partner, John, Andrew Eberwein and wife, Vicki; Step-siblings, David Eichelberger, Craig Eichelberger and wife, Lisa, Scott Eichelberger and wife, Tracy, Vicki Zeppa, Linda Fischl and husband, Paul, Penny Sergent and husband, Arthur.
Susan was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Eichelberger and husband, Fritz and her father, Arthur Eberwein; grandparents, Elsie Posch and husband, Eddie.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018. Another visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14 from 10-11:00 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2540 Center St., Bethlehem, PA 18017. A celebration of Sue's life will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
