Susan J. Schartel

Susan J. Schartel, 57, of Macungie, went home to the Lord on December 24, 2013. She was born in Allentown on November 27, 1956; daughter of Francis P. and June L (Rappe) Holzer of Bethlehem.

A graduate of Liberty High School, Class of 1974, Susan went on to fulfill the role of administrative assistant for various physicians and community organizations. Before the birth of her first child, she worked at Lehigh Valley Hospital as a licensed phlebotomist. For the past 12 years she was employed by Muhlenberg College as the secretary of the Career Center. Surely her favorite “work” was attending to her children with wisdom and faithful instruction as a stay at home mom. An inspirational and devoted mother, she loved her children with an immense selfless, sacrificial love. She was delighted to assist in her childrens extracurricular activities; serving as a Cub Scout den mother and member of the Brandywine Heights Music Boosters and being the ultimate cheerleader at sporting events and musical performances. She enjoyed capturing the beauty of Gods creation through photography. The unfathomable joy she found on the beach was naturally shared with others through the warmth of her love and the never ending waves of her faithfulness.

She will be lovingly remembered and forever honored by her parents, Francis daughter, Stefanie Schartel; son, Kevin Schartel; brother, Richard Holzer & his fianc, Donna; her companion of the last six years, Thomas Nelson; and Terry Schartel, the father of her children.

Viewing hours will be held in the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St, Bethlehem, on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 7-9 PM and again on Saturday, December 28, 2013 from 8:30-9:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Annes Catholic Church, 450 Washington Ave, Bethlehem at 10 AM. Burial will be at the Topton Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Susans infinite love for music to the Organ Fund of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 121 South Home Avenue, Topton, PA 19562.
