Teresa Y. Verbos

Teresa “Tess” Y. Verbos, 89, of Bethlehem, formerly of Steelton, PA, took her long desired journey home to be with her Lord! How we all rejoice with her and for her! She passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023 at VNA Hospice House of St. Lukes. Tess was the wife of the late John L. Verbos who died January 14, 2022. They were happily married for 62 years.

She was born in Harrisburg, PA on February 17,1934 to the late Thomas and Anna (Gustin) Benkovic. She was predeceased in death by her siblings John, Thomas, Helen, Lawrence, Rev. Theodore, Anne, Mary, Joseph, Catherine, Barbara and Martin; and also by her infant daughter, Anne.

Tess graduated from Harrisburg Catholic High School and went on to work at Bethlehem Steel in data entry. After having her family she worked for the former Georges IGA at the Westgate Mall. She was well-known as a cheerful front-end manager for many years. Tess was a devoted member of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church where she worshipped for 53 faith-filled years. Many of them at daily 6:30am mass. She enjoyed spending time with her family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She actively participated and relished in attending their sporting events, birthdays, recitals, and day-to-day activities. She loved to sing, especially to her ethnic Croatian records, and dance the Croatian kolos. She was an enthusiastic member of the Kolo Club Marian, where she met her husband. She also looked forward to Sunday family dinners, trips to the shore, and jet-setting with family out to Las Vegas once a year.

She will be dearly missed and remembered by her children: Diane Smith, John L., Jr. (Sandy) Verbos, Patty (Chris) Horn; sister-in-law: Rosemary Verbos; grandchildren: Alyssa Horn, John L. Verbos, III and C.J. Horn; great granddaughters: Payton & Hadleigh Verbos.

Service: Family and friends are invited to call 6-8pm Sunday, May 14, 2023 at the Connell Funeral Home, Inc.,245 East Broad Street-Bethlehem and 9:30-10am Monday, May 15, 2023 at Notre Dame Church of Bethlehem, 1861 Catasauqua Road-Bethlehem followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10am. The interment will conclude services at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Online condolences may be offered at connellfuneral.com.
