Theodore “Ted” G. Halkias, 91, of Bethlehem, died Monday November 16, 2015. He was born in Philadelphia to the late Martha (Sikorski) and George Halkias, Sr. He was the loving husband of the late Irene (Grgurinovic) Halkias for 59 years.
Ted was a member of St Josephs Catholic Church, The Holy Name Society and choir. He was also a member of The National Sokols Bethlehem. He received a bronze star while serving in the US Army during WWII. Ted is a graduate of Moravian College and Lehigh University. He was a language arts teacher and baseball coach for the Bethlehem School District for 40 years. He enjoyed playing baseball while at Moravian and in the Blue Mountain League for many years.
He is lovingly remembered by his sons, George S. Halkias and his wife Toni, of Bethlehem; Theodore N. Halkias and his wife Monica, of Bath; granddaughters, Anne, Laura, Katie, Rachel and Natalie; great-grandson, Jallel and sister Mary Purdy. He was preceded in death by his brother Nondas and sister Rose Basile.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 417 E. 5th St. Bethlehem, PA 18015. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 East Broad St, Bethlehem PA 18018. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery in Bethlehem.
