Thomas Edward Skopal, Sr., 84, of Bethlehem, died on June 19, 2023. He was born in Chicago, IL, on September 15, 1938, son of the late Edward R. Skopal and Sarajane (Baker) Skopal, who died during childbirth, as well as the late Rita V. (Peebles) Skopal. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Patricia A. (Bates) Skopal.
Tom will be lovingly remembered as kind, considerate, hardworking, and genuine. He earned his bachelors degree from Drexel University and was employed by Acopian Technical Company for more than 40 years, retiring as Vice President. As a devoted family man, Tom consistently prioritized those he loved above himself. He smiled most at family activities, especially those involving his five grandchildren to who he was the epitome of the word Grandpop. He proudly maintained his ham radio operator license W3WJN for which he first qualified as a teen, and enjoyed reading, traveling, and leisurely walks around his neighborhood.
He will be dearly missed by his son, Thomas Edward Skopal, Jr. and wife, Christy; daughter, Karen McLaughlin and husband, Robert; and five grandchildren: Katherine “Katie” McLaughlin, William “Liam” Skopal, Carilyn “Cari” McLaughlin, Marcus “Marc” Skopal, and Josephine “Josie” Skopal. Tom is survived by his siblings, Sister Mary Skopal, SSJ; Patricia Grant and husband, Richard; Edward Skopal and wife, Patricia; James Skopal and wife, Georgia; and Joan Skopal; as well as his late wifes cousin, Barbara Creegan, and family; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Colleran.
