Thomas J. Deangelis

Thomas J. DeAngelis, 94, of Bethlehem, departed this world on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Cedarbrook, Fountain Hill Annex. Born March 7, 1918 in Ambridge, Beaver County, PA he was the son of the late Frank J. and Rosa (Martellucci) DeAngelis.

Mr. DeAngelis, known to his family and friends as "Joe", was a longtime member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Bethlehem. After some years of employment at R.K. Laros Silk Mill in Bethlehem, he spent the remaining majority of years working with the Bethlehem School District and Bethlehem Vocational Tech School in maintenance and grounds keeping.

Joe was a hardworking, family devoted man who met many challenges in life with courage, commitment, and dedication. Due to a severe hearing impairment since infancy, he was special educated up until junior high school. He was a lightweight champion boxer at the Bethlehem Boys Club and enjoyed bowling with his brothers at the Panthers A.A. in a summer league. He was a lifetime N.Y. Yankee fan and followed and enjoyed Lehigh University sports, especially football and wrestling.

Joe will be lovingly remembered and missed by his son Frank and wife Josephine of Bethlehem, daughter Ida, and her husband Dr. David Vasily of Bethlehem, brothers Paul and his wife Carol of Bethlehem and Angelo and his wife Gerry of Allentown, sisters Helen DeAngelis , Margarite Spadaccia and her husband Joseph and sister-in-law Helen DeAngelis all of Bethlehem. He is also survived by three grandsons, Jason Krosecz and his fiance Nikole, Steven and Dorothy DeAngelis and Kevin DeAngelis, and 2 granddaughters, Adrienne Schultz, and her husband Graig, and Kristina Brandes, and her husband Joshua, and 5 great grandchildren; Andrew, Nathan, Evan, Ava and Ida. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Amelia Horninger, Margaret Salminen and Mary Hengstenberger, brothers; Peter and Ernest DeAngelis and Michael Petrella and a grandson Craig DeAngelis.

Funeral services will begin with prayers at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St, Bethlehem, PA 18018 at 9:15 am on Saturday, February 16, 2013 followed by a Mass at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 450 Washington Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18017 at 10 am. Family and friends may call from 6-8 pm on Friday, February 15, 2013 and again Saturday, February 16, 2013 from 8-9:15 am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
