Thomas M. Siemiatkoski, 91, of Kirkland Village, Bethlehem, PA, passed onto eternal life on April 12, 2018 at St.Lukes Hospice House. He was born on August 15, 1926 in Waterbury, CT to the late Stefania (Lenkowski) and Joseph Siemiatkoski. Tom was the beloved husband of Alberta Albrecht for nearly 22 years.
He was a graduate of the Maloney School and Crosby High School in Waterbury. He began piano lessons at the age of ten. While in high school, he was the concert master of the consolidated high school orchestra and a violinist with the Waterbury Symphony. He served in the US Army during WWII and was stationed in Korea at wars end. After his honorable discharge, he earned a B. Mus. in musical performance at the New England Conservatory of Music and a B. Mus. Ed. at Boston University; subsequently, he completed studies and work leading to graduate degrees at the University of Connecticut and Teachers College of Columbia University.
For nearly forty years, Tom was a music teacher primarily of string instruments at public schools in Kingston and Rye, NY and Southington and Waterbury, CT.
As a member of the Kosciuszko Foundation, he took courses in the Polish language at the Catholic University in Lublin, Poland and the Jagellonian University in Cracow, Poland.
After Tom and Alberta married, they lived in Pleasantville, NY for one year before relocating to Bethlehem in 1997. As a Bethlehem resident, Tom was a parishioner of St. Annes Catholic Church where he had served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, altar server at daily Mass, a member of the church choir and also the Allentown Diocesan Choir. He had been an active member of the Serra Club of Bethlehem for 15 years. As a member of MORA of Bethlehem, he sang and played violin with the mens chorus and played violin with the MORA band. Tom was one of the original members of the Lehigh Valley Pops Orchestra as a first violinist.
Tom is survived by his devoted wife Alberta; sister-in-law, Therese Siemiatkoski; niece, Susan and her husband Thomas Fuller; four nephews: William Junga, Joseph Siemiatkoski and his wife Cathie Lyden, James Siemiatkoski and his wife, Christine Macy, and John Siemiatkoski and great-niece, Jennifer Siemiatkoski. He was preceded in death by his sister and her daughter Bernice and Barbara Junga and his brother Joseph Siemiatkoski.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at St. Annes Church, 450 Washington Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18017. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Annes Church. Inurnment will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Annes Church or the Carole King-Helbling Music Fund at Kirkland Village, 1 Kirkland Village Circle, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
