Thomas S. Sauer

Thomas S. Sauer, M.D., 76, of Hanover Twp., died on October 17, 2022, at home after a 3 month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born August 22, 1946, in Bethlehem, son of the late Joseph Michael and Cecelia (Yost) Sauer. Dr. Sauer is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Linda Ann (Forchielli) Sauer.

He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School, and was a member of the 1963 undefeated football team. He earned his undergraduate degree at the College of the Holy Cross, where he met the love of his life, Linda. Dr. Sauer earned his M.D. from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1972, followed by the completion of his orthopedic residency at the Albany Medical Center, under the direction of renowned orthopedist Crawford Campbell, M.D. Dr. Sauer proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center, and served on the USS Shreveport.

In 1978, Dr. Sauer joined Orthopedic Associates of Bethlehem, where he practiced general orthopedics for 34 years. In that time, he served as the team physician for Moravian College and Bethlehem Catholic High School. He was an extraordinary surgeon, beloved by his many patients, staff, and fellow physicians. He had a positive impact on so many people in the Bethlehem community, and he will be remembered for his kind and gentle ways.

Dr. Sauer enjoyed collecting model cars, car racing, and watching sports, especially the athletic events of his grandchildren. He was a parishioner of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church.

Tom will be dearly missed by his wife, Linda; son, Scott Sauer, M.D. and his wife, Kim (Martin) Sauer; daughter, Kristen (Sauer) Delaney and her husband, Jeff Delaney; grandchildren, Ashley and Brynn Delaney, and Jacoby, Logan, and Avery Sauer; his brother, Joseph Sauer, sister, Joan (Sauer) Wilvert, and their families. A wonderful dad and papa, a devoted physician, and an adoring husband, Tom was deeply loved.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 5:30-8 p.m. at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church, 1861 Catasauqua Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18018. Interment will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
