The Passing of Ursula May 1, 2009

Ursula Kobrick, beloved wife and best friend of husband Thomas E. Kobrick for more than fifty years ended a six-year battle with cancer on May 1, 2009. She also is survived by three children, Patricia, Colleen and Thomas and granddaughter Ursula, who were lovingly at her side during her long battle, and continually at her bedside, especially during her final months. She also has four brothers living in Germany.

The only daughter of ten children, Ursula was born in Bad Ziegenhals, Germany in 1935 and later moved to Dresden, Germany during World War II from which she, her mother and her brothers had to flee during the night in the midst of the massive fire bombings of the city in 1945. Having safely evacuated the city, they escaped to the mountainous areas of Saxony, which became occupied by the Russian army. Several years later, they escaped across the border in a hay wagon of a local farmer from East Germany to West Germany and later resettled in Helmstedt, Germany, the border checkpoint.

In 1957 she moved to the USA with her husband Thomas, who was serving in the US Army in Germany, and their daughter Patricia. She became a proud American and in five years, a naturalized citizen of the USA and a strong supporter of all that it represents and the opportunities that are provided to its citizenry.

Her greatest loves had always been for her family including several foster children in Brazil and Mexico and her love of nature and its creations of birds, animals, flowers, mountains and trees. For several years she worked at Phoebe Floral in Allentown, which furthered her love for floral beauty.

She will be loved forever and missed by all who knew and loved her for her passion for life, compassion, candor and a willingness to help others in need. Her struggles and pain are now over and she rests in peace. We will keep the bird feeders full for her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the All Purpose Treatment Area of the Lehigh Valley Health Network Cancer Center, Cedar Crest and I78, Allentown, PA 18105 whose employees provided outstanding loving care during her six years of treatment.

Friends wanting to celebrate her life can visit with the family at the Connell Funeral Home at 245 East Broad Street, Bethlehem on May 8, 2009 from 6-8 P.M. after which there will be a brief celebration service at the same location.
