Walene Mary Baunach

Walene Mary Baunach, 89, of Bethlehem, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018. She was born in Bethlehem; daughter of the late Walter W. and Irene M. (Griffin) Duffy. Walene was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Arnold M. Baunach.

Walene was a 1951 graduate of Immaculata College and in 1955 earned her masters degree from Lehigh University. Walene loved educating and used that passion as a Secondary English and Reading teacher at Northeast Middle School in the Bethlehem Area School District until her retirement in 1991. She also volunteered her time between 1991 and 1996 tutoring ESL and English at the Adult Literacy Center and Radio Reading Service for the Blind. In 1996 Walene continued on as an Instructor teaching GED courses and English as a Second Language classes at Northampton Community College until 2014 at the age of 84.

She loved her family very much and will be dearly missed by her sons, Chad (Carolyn); Greg (Mary Ann); Hugh (Lisa Longenbach); daughter, Shari; as well as her grandchildren, Caitlin Baunach, Elizabeth Cogley, Gregory Baunach, and Julianna Dougherty; and great grandchildren, Wyatt and Eoin.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Holy Saviour Cemetery, 2575 Linden St. Bethlehem, PA 18017. Those wishing to attend are invited to meet at the entrance to the cemetery by 10:50 a.m.
