Wallace F. Karp

Wallace F. Karp, 86, of Bethlehem, died on Monday, July 30, 2012 in his residence at Traditions of Hanover. He was born January 3, 1926 in Newark, NJ; son of the late Wallace J. and Mary (Kniffin) Karp. Wallace is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Doris (Collins) Karp. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII as a radio operator stationed in Newfoundland.

Wallace earned his Master's Degree in Technical Education and had a passion for computers and teaching. He worked with RCA assisting with one of the earliest computers, and was later able to utilize this expertise at Cape Canaveral with NASA. Wallace also worked with the Down Range Missiles in Puerto Rico. At the US Postal Service, Wallace not only created the USPS safety manual, but also taught for many years. He also taught at Bethlehem Technical College and the University of Oklahoma. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bethlehem.

Wallace will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Doris; daughters, Karen and her husband Bruce Jackson of Marlton, NJ and Kathryn and her husband Dr. Joseph DiConcetto, MD of Bethlehem; his daughter-in-law June Karp of Delanco, NJ; five grandchildren, Brad, Karen, Andrew, Joey and Brian; and one great granddaughter, Jada. He was preceded in death by his sons, David Wallace and William James Karp and his grandson, Eric.

Wallace was a true scholar and a published poet, as well.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 2, 2012 from 7-9 PM at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, PA 18018. A Ceremony to celebrate Wallace's life will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 10am. Full Military Honors will follow at the Bethlehem Memorial Park Mausoleum.
