The family of Helen and Dr. Walter Margie are sad to announce the death of Helen (96) on December 9th, 2023 and Walter (100) on January 15th, 2024. Walter and Helen met when Walter was an intern at St. Luke’s Hospital. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary later this year.
Helen was born in Bethlehem. She attended Liberty High School and St. Luke’s School of Nursing. She worked at St. Luke’s and Chestnut Hill Hospital near Philadelphia. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was also a dedicated volunteer with the Cancer Boutique at the Rink in Bethlehem for over 30 years.
Walter was born in Wilkes-Barre. He graduated from Lehigh University and majored in Chemical Engineering. He then served in the US Navy during World War II. After the war he taught chemistry at Wilkes College before earning his medical degree at Temple School of Medicine. He served the Bethlehem community as an Internal Medicine doctor for over 50 years. He was also on the St. Luke’s Board of Directors for a period of time.
Helen and Walter were both members of St Anne’s Catholic Church of Bethlehem.
Survivors: Amira (Erdal) Unver, Ned (Maryann Friend) Margie, Melissa (Kim) Peterson and Peter Margie. They are also survived by two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Walter is also survived by his brother Dr. Robert Margie.
