Walter N. Norley

March 21, 1939 — July 1, 2018

Walter Nelson Norley III passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 9:30 p.m. He was born March 21, 1939 at Delaware County Hospital in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. Born to Samuel and Joyce Norley, the grandson of Dr. Walter and Josephine Norley, he was a 1957 graduate of Haverford High School. On Friday, March 13, 1959 he married his beloved wife, Pam. They were married 59 years.

Walt is survived by his loving wife, Pam, his four children, Pami (Donn), Walter (Allison), Todd (Doreen) and Missy (Bob), his sister, Geri Carroll, and his 13 adored grandchildren, Kate, Allie, Todd, Zack, Kelsey, Lucie, Ashley, Charlie, Abbi, Taylor, Will, Nelson, and Grace, and two great-grandchildren, Hudson and Marlowe.

After being drafted out of high school by the Milwaukee Braves organization as a hard throwing pitcher, he went on to build Eastern Prestressed Concrete Corporation into an industry leading manufacturer of bridges and parking garages in the mid-Atlantic markets, before selling to Oldcastle Precast, a subsidiary of Ireland based CRH LLC., a global leader in building materials. Walt retired in 1990, at the age of 48 to Bluffton, South Carolina, enjoying life with family, friends, his high-speed golf cart and entertaining at the half way house.

Walt was a devoted husband, father, and proud grandfather. He lived his life with unwavering generosity and kindness towards others. Giving back was a core tenant of his life. “The Op” or “Opper”, as he was lovingly called by family, did not pass a day without checking in on his grandchildren. They are his legacy, and will carry his memory in their hearts.

He will be sorely missed by family, friends and all of the lives he touched.
