Walter R. Stocker

Walter R. Stocker, 93, of Bethlehem, died on Saturday, August 15, 2015 in his home, with his loving wife at his side. He was born in Bethlehem, the son of the Chief of Police of Bethlehem, Ernest and Katie (Hoffert) Stocker. He also had four brothers and two sisters. He was the loving husband of Josephine M. (Rotondo) Stocker for over 69 years. They were High School Sweethearts and from the day that they met their love grew stronger every day. Walter proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps in the Battle of Iwo Jima, South Pacific for 2 years during WWII. After 40 years, he retired from the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He spent many years as a Chief Draftsman and later became an Engineering Supervisor, which took him all across the country and to Bochum, Germany to assist with Blast Furnaces. Walter and Josephine could be found on many nights dancing until the morning hours at the Bethlehem Steel Club and later became charter members of the Silver Creek Country Club. He was also a member of the N.E. Wanderers and the American Legion. Walter was a member of the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers. He also served on the board of the Northampton County Area Community College.

Walter will be dearly missed by his wife, Josephine, his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews whom he loved dearly.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, Inc. A Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Annes Catholic Church, 450 Washington Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18017 with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately to follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery.
