William Criswell Hedge

July 14, 1919 — December 31, 2008

Dr. William Criswell Hedge passed away on Wednesday, December 31st New Year's Eve in his apartment at Kirkland Village. He was 89 years old. Born in Bletchley, of the United Kingdom, he was the son of the late William and Jessica Ing Hedge. He served as an officer in the British Army in WW2. He held a Phd in engineering. After emigrating from England in 1948, he joined the Canadian Bell Telephone System. After moving to the U.S. he joined the Bell Laboratories. Dr. Hedge was the author of numerous published texts and holder of three patents. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church and a third degree Knight of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret, in 1971 and by his second wife, Mary, in 2007. He will be greatly missed by his devoted, loving, daughter, Freda Ferris and her husband Lew, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, a nephew, Douglas Hedge, and numerous friends at Kirkland Village.

Services: Entombment will take place Monday, January 5, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Saviour Mausoleum, 2575 Linden St. Bethlehem. Arrangements have been entrusted to Connell Funeral Home, Inc. 245 East Broad St. Bethlehem.

Memorial Contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Hospice of the VNA of St. Luke's, 1510 Valley Center Parkway, Suite 200, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
