William F. “Wee Willie” Wash, 87, of Allentown, died Monday, April 20, 2015. He was the son of the late John and Theresa (Freind) Vas. He was the husband of Bernice (Lowe) Wash. They were married 26 years.
Bill graduated from Bethlehem High School in 1945 where he excelled in football and track. He earned the name “Wee Willie” for his speed and agility. He was a drummer in “Jars of Jam,” one of the most talented bands in Hellertown history.
Bill served in the U.S. Army as an Administration and Supply Specialist. He graduated from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College in 1951. He was an accountant at Bethlehem Steel throughout his career. Bill was an avid golfer and spent his retirement years living in Sun City and Naples, Florida.
Survivors: Wife, Bernice, stepson, William Gheen of Jacksonville, FL, stepdaughter, Nancy Gheen of Chesterfield, MO, brother, George Vas, sister, Theresa Lawrence, sister-in-law, Goldie Vass, all of Bethlehem and 8 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John Vass and James Wash, brother-in-law, Jack Lawrence and great niece, Lauren Cressman.
Services: Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11 AM at Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, PA, preceded by a calling hour from 10-11 AM.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bills name to the Alzheimer's Association 617 A Main St., Hellertown, PA 18055.
