William G. Palenchar

William George “Star” Palenchar, 89, died peacefully March 8, 2017, at Holy Family Manor. Born April 2, 1927, in Bethlehem, he was the son of Frank and Anna (Kostelnik) Palenchar. He was the beloved husband of Shirley (Motiska) Palenchar for 67 years. Bill graduated from Bethlehem (Liberty) High School in 1944, and spent two years in the Army, traveling Europe and the Middle East after WWII. He visited the pyramids in Cairo and the Holy Lands. He graduated from Moravian College in 1952 and worked in the Billing Division of the Bethlehem Steel Company until 1984. Bill excelled in all sports, from stickball as a boy on East Fifth Street to baseball, basketball and bowling. He loved golf above all and had 3 holes-in-one! Bill also loved music of all kinds, movies, gardening, The Sands, Brass Rail cheesesteaks, Potts hot dogs and a good garden tomato sandwich.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Judy and husband Joseph Kelleman, son, Gary and Sandy Simpson, daughter, Cindy, and husband, Keith Jones, all of Bethlehem; six grandchildren, Amy Kelleman, James Kelleman, Kathryn (Kelleman) Paul, Steven Jones, Zachary Jones and Benjamin Jones, and five great-grandchildren, Jacob Gould, Lydia and Violet Paul, and Andrew and Maxwell Kelleman; and his brothers, Edward and Richard Palenchar both of Bethlehem. He was preceded in death by his brother, Francis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 13, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 730 West Broad St., Bethlehem, PA 18018. A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.
