William H. Webb

William H. Webb, 89, of Bethlehem died on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Gracedale Nursing Home in Nazareth, PA. He was the husband of Margaret J. Herbott Webb, who died October 13, 2007. The couple was married for 63 years.

Mr. Webb was born July 7, 1920; the son of the late Kelvin W. Webb and Lila Webb O'Brien.

He worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 33 years, beginning in the engineering department of the Philadelphia sales office and retiring from the reinforcing bars, piling and construction specialty sales division in Bethlehem.

Mr. Webb was an Army veteran of World War II, having been inducted into the U.S. Army in July 1942. He was assigned to the 80th Infantry Division for basic training and in May of 1943, he completed officer candidate school at Fort Benning, GA. After desert maneuvers and other training, the 80th Infantry division sailed as a whole unit aboard the "Queen Mary" to Europe where the division became part of General Patton's third Army. Participation included Central Europe, Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland. His decorations included the Bronze Star with Cluster.

After WWII, he was active for a number of years in both the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Cathedral Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem and served on the Vestry and Church Men's Group and was also the assistant treasurer at the church.

He was a member of the Saucon Square and Round Dancers and Yellow Rockers of the PA Square Dance Clubs. His hobbies included duck carving, fishing and carpentry.

Mr. Webb was preceded in death by his son Kelvin Wallace Webb.

He is survived by daughter, Margaret J. Sigley of Freemansburg and her boyfriend David Lynn; Linda L. Webb of Bethlehem and her boyfriend Frederick Wunder; daughter-in-law Liz Webb of Easton, PA his sister Kathleen Elkin and her husband Melvin of Los Angeles, CA; one grandson, William R. Mease and his wife Annette of Bethlehem; two great granddaughters Kelsey and Ashley Mease; four nephews and one niece.

A Funeral Service with Holy Eucharist will be held 11 AM Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Cathedral Church of the Nativity 321 Wyandotte St. Bethlehem, PA 18015.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 3, 2010 from 7-9 PM at Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem and again on Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 10-10:30 AM at the funeral home.

Interment will be held Bethlehem Memorial Park.
