William Nemeth born March 24, 1923 in Barton, Ohio died peacefully at home on May 29, 2011 in Quakertown, Pa. He moved to the Lehigh Valley with his parents in the 1930's. He was predeceased by his parents Sandor Nemeth and Lidia Baranyai Nemeth, and brothers, Joseph, Julius and Alex.
He graduated from Bethlehem Technical High School in 1942. While in high school he was a truck driver for Hoffman's Poultry. He was drafted into the Army 1943, trained at Camp Shelby, Miss., transferred to the Army Air Corp where he trained as a gunner on a B17. He and the rest of his crew spent the war years training other crews. After the war he started as an apprentice draftsman at Bethlehem Steel in the Structural Steel Department and later transferred to the Engineering Department where he worked until the company closed down. After retirement from Bethlehem Steel, he went to work for 13 years at MetPro's pump division in Souderton.
His love besides his family were his cats and dogs, and his farm where he at various times raised sheep, chickens, steers, rabbits, ponies and horses, while raising hay and grains. He also loved to travel. He visited all the states, including Hawaii and Alaska twice, and visited the village in Hungary where his parents were born and married. He was a member of the Board of Directors at the Beethoven Waldheim.
He was married to Irene Kovaleski in January 1949. This year they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Survived by, Lynne M. Nemeth and husband Lanny Morrison, Arizona and Joan N. Mack and husband John Mack of Upper Salford Township. A nephew, William A. Nemeth and nieces , Irene D'Angelo, and Dolores Frye.
A Memorial Service will be held 11AM Wednesday June 1, 2011 at the Connell Funeral Home 245 E. Broad St. Bethlehem, Pa. 18018. Calling hour from 10-11AM at the funeral home.
